FINALLY

I’m laying in bed this morning when I hear a knock on the door. I’m going to do the same thing I did when my dog would scratch at the door. If I don’t answer it for long enough maybe it will stop. I got the same reaction this morning as I did when my dog would scratch. It didn’t stop. I know that trick never works, I try it every time hoping that one time it will. It was Azriel telling us what time we needed to be ready to move. FINALLY! My mood changed faster than light can fill a room. Today is the day we finally moved into Bollihope. Although I have enjoyed the many awkward congregations in the hallways of the flats, the small kitchen, and heatless rooms of the Royal Lodge, I am very relieved to have moved. I’ve already set up my room with pictures, gone out to get organizers for my closet, and grocery shopped. Don’t worry, Mom. I have enough eggs to last me a couple days. It is now nice to have a common room with multiple couches and chairs and a large kitchen with plenty of room to cook. Although, even this house has a bit of character added into it like the Royal Lodge.

I have actually done cool things in Cape Town besides moving. We went down to Long Street on Friday night. We ate dinner at a place called Mama Africa and it was there that it really hit me that I’m in Cape Town for the next four months. I think I’m finally excited. For dinner, I got a kabob with crocodile, kudu, and springbok. That was my first time eating any game animals and don’t ask me what I liked best. It was all really good but I couldn’t tell what was what. I would totally go back to get it again though.

Saturday, I reluctantly went down to Muizenberg. I say reluctantly because the wind in Cape Town winters is like nothing else. It was so loud that I barely slept. But I went and I’m so glad I did! Muizenberg is a small surfing beach off the Cape and I can now know why. The waves were unreal! There was just a constant succession of waves for at least 20 yards out into the water. Not really sure I would go in the water though because part of Shark Week on Discovery Channel is filmed there. I really was hoping I would catch a glimpse of a shark, even just a fin. Even the wind on the beach Saturday was still really bad. I guess for the wind surfers it was a good thing but it was tough walking against it on the beach. I definitely want to go back sometime in the spring when it’s not as windy.

For the next couple days, school will be starting and we’re planning a trip to go cage diving with the sharks sometime soon. Of all the things to be nervous about, I don’t think it’s the sharks that scare me. I’m most nervous about going to a class with more than 25 people in it!
